Crawley Model Engineers

The Crawley Model Engineers were founded in 1962 by a group of engineers working in one of the factories in Crawley.  Shortly after its formation, the Club approached the local Council for a site in Goffs Park on which to build a high level track.  Permission was granted and an ‘up and down’ track of about 750 feet was built.  Two years later an extended section was opened to give a complete circuit of 1250 feet.  This required two cuttings and help was given by the Council with a digger and a dumper truck.  The railway has continued to run since that date, the original railway sleeper bed being replaced with custom made girders.  The aluminium track has a ruling grade of about 1 in 100 with two short sections of 1 in 80.

Griffiths Precision Engineering

Established in 1982 by Gordon Griffiths, Griffiths Precision Engineering is a precision
machining subcontractor with a long track record in the manufacture of special tooling. We
can handle one-offs to long production volumes as required.

Ongoing investment in CNC technology and CADCAM has equipped GPE to machine
complex components in virtually all materials, including stainless steels, titanium and
aerospace alloys. Typical of the type of work undertaken is the special tooling used in car
seat belt test rigs and in the testing of diesel engines. However, the well-equipped workshop
allows the company to apply its knowledge and skills to a broad range of machining work

West Huntspill Model Engineering Society.

We are a small club of 40 members, with a wide age range, who share the passion for model engineering; this takes many forms Boats, plains, stationary engines, traction engines, steam plant but maily trains.

Our club which has a miniature railway of 1100 feet is based in the village of West Huntspill, just off the A38, between the market towns of Highbridge / Burnham-on-Sea and Bridgwater on the west Somerset coast.

Between Easter and the end of October we like to open our railway to the public, so they too may enjoy the models, a ride behind one of them, also take in the atmosphere and the smell of a working miniature railway.

Stroud Society of Model Engineers

The society has an 850 ft miniature railway (5″ and 3.5″) in Stratford Park, Stroud which members can use at any time.
Events are organised at the track during Summer months to encourage as many people as possible to run their engines and turn up for a natter. Public passenger hauling is held on the last Sunday afternoon in each month, April – Oct.
During the winter regular meetings are held with speakers invited to talk on a variety of mainly engineering subjects.
